The Southern Africa Communications for Development (SACOD) is a network of southern African filmmakers, film and video production organisations and distributors.

Mission Statement: SACOD promotes and empowers the makers and distributors of audiovisual content to communicate development issues.

Vision Statement: SACOD will become the leading advocacy organisation in southern Africa for makers and distributors of videos and films that deal with social development issues.

» Kavalamanja: In defence of the nation - 01 April 2008
Premiered at the Lusaka PlayHouse from the 4th-7th March 2008, Yezi Arts Promotions released their most-up-to-the-minute documemntary "Battle for Kavalamanja....in defence of the nation". The film explores Zambia's role in its struggle for liberation. Aiming to edify people beyond its borders, it unveils Ian Smith's Southern Rhodesian Army's 1978 attack on Zambia's Luangwa district, Kavalamanja/ Kakaro village in a bloody conflict that lasted 72 hours.

» Mahaka Media ups on productions - 30 April 2008
Events over the past couple of years bring to mind the expression, “Biting off more than you can chew”. From around 2001 when I started working for myself, there was always enough work to keep the family fed, but never too much. I’d do a couple of short two or three-country shoots per year, but I had lots of time to explore other non-core stuff like music videos, toying with producing car programs and I attended my fair share of workshops. From mid-2006 I began preparing for my biggest project yet: a seven-country shoot for The Kellogg Foundation.

» SACOD Skills Audit launched - 29 April 2008
Gina Bonmariage and Eugene Vambe Jirira (VJ), commissioned to conduct the SACOD Skills Audit for the film and video industry, launched the project with the first country visit by VJ in early April to Namibia. Abius Akwaake, Chairman of Filmmakers Association of Namibia (FAN), and SACOD board member, and Michaela Bauer, a board member of FAN, in collaboration with other board members, were instrumental in preparing the groundwork for the visit.

» Kavalamanja - In Defense of the Nation - 01 April 2008
On March 6, 1978 around 09.15 Ian Smith's Southern Rhodesian Army attacked Luangwa district, and specifically Kavalamanja and Kakaro Village, in a war that was to last for close to 72 hours. The most intensified aerial and ground bombardment resulted in unaccounted deaths; internal displacement; and a human crisis that has haunted the local people of these remote villages. Gallant men and women from the defense forces lost their lives, got injured – and for those that still live today recount the experiences of that moment with pain and anguish.
